Today is the last school day for 2013. We'll be saying farewell to our friends in Year 6 and there WILL be tears! When we looked back at 2013, these are some of the highlights that we came up with.

The Year 6 Farewell - it was so fun to watch the slideshow and look at all of our years at this school. The Dances were awesome. The food and cake were delicious and everybody looked amazing.
Mogo - What an adventure. We learned lots and had so much fun. We had fun playing on the field. And again there was dancing and delicious food!
Adobe excursion - We learned a lot about technology and what they do. The best part was that it was free! They also took us to Taronga Zoo and gave us lunch.
Easter Show - We were TV stars! We had lots of fun but didn't like the smell of the animal poo.
Marsden News - We made our own News Programs and we loved being reporters and camera people.
Multicultural Day - Always an amazing day at Warwick Farm. The food was delicious and the costumes and dances were incredible this year.
Miss Williams - We had a fantastic Prac Teacher who did lots of fun things with us. She did good fun fitness, we did a play for Kangaroo Court, and she had a party for us on her last day. We wish she would come back.
Our friends - We have so many great friends at Warwick Farm and in our class and we will miss everyone who is leaving us.
Happy Holidays Everyone!

We had so much fun creating this Video Star clip for our class assembly. We hope you enjoy it!

On the 22nd of November, Marsden went to a video conference (For Good Measure: Fun with Measurement and Standards Session). It was held in our Tilt Room (Computer Room). It was held by the Powerhouse Museum. Mr. Matthew Connell guided us through the video conference.

It was very engaging and we learnt so much information! There were other schools participating as well.
First, we were discussing units of measure from the past and present. We were asked some questions about units of measure. We saw some of the instruments that the Government used in New South Wales in the early 1800's. We had never heard of things like 'Jills' for measuring. They are smaller than a 'Pint' and bigger than a 'Jack'. We saw a yard stick, too. The fancy jugs at the front were Gallons, Half Gallons, Quarts, Pints and Jills.

Mr Connell had to wear gloves all of the time that he was handling the instruments because the oil on his hands could damage the historical measuring tools.
On the first activity, we were given a strip of paper to decide with a partner who would make the strip into quarters or fifths. There was another activity that involved paper.

In a group of three, we had to pick someone in the group to trace the foot and hand. It had to be the same person. We discovered that everyone can fit 3 1/2 of their hands (sideways) into one foot, and everyone can fit their thumb 4 times into the width of their hand.
The last activity we did was measure the room we were in with Aditya. We did this by laying Aditya on the floor and seeing how many Aditya's could fit the length of the floor. We found out that about 4 Aditya's could fit the length of the floor. Mr. Matthew Connell said that if Aditya grew, the measurement would have to change so this type of measurement isn't really accurate.

After watching some Charlie Chaplin movies, Marsden had a lot of fun planning our own short films, filming them and then converting them to 'old style' using a really fun app called Vintagio.

Our school held a Halloween Dressup day on 31st October. All of the children were asked to donate a gold coin and the money raised was donated to the NSW Bushfire Appeal.

A few weeks ago, after watching some short Charlie Chaplin movies, we worked in small groups to create story boards or plans for our own movies in a similar style. Unfortunately, we have had so many other things happening that it took 2 weeks for us to get the opportunity to actually make our films. We used an incredibly easy to use app called Vintagio. This is the first group's creation. Visit our blog again soon to see what the other groups create!
What did you like about the film?
Can you give them any constructive feedback for next time?

On Friday, we created some beautiful Spooky Silhouette artworks as Halloween is coming up. The idea came from one of Mrs Chegwidden's favourite websites, Art Projects for Kids. We used a compass to draw the moon. then added purple and blue oil pastels, blended together for the spooky night sky. Finally, we added the dead tree trunk and some of us added bats hanging from the tree. We think they look fantastic!
Have you done any Halloween Art?
What other Art would you like to do?

We love our Grandfriends and we invited them on the 23rd of October to share our wonderful school. Before the day, we made fantastic cards for our Grandfriends. In Marsden, a lot of our grandparents live overseas, but 5 children had Grandfriends who came.

At 12.30, all our students who had Grand Friends coming went to greet them and show them around. They came to our classrooms and we showed them our classroom, our work and our class blog.
At 1.00 we brought our Grandfriends to watch some performances. Aditya was the MC who told hilarious jokes. Two students from Liverpool Boys came and performed a dance. They were hysterical and entertaining! They did dance as well as drama. Lauren and Julie from our class sang beatifully. Ali spoke about His dream of a world without Bullies. Unfortunately, it was a really hot day and we were using lots of power which caused a blackout. This meant the rest of the concert was cancelled.
We took our Grandfriends to the hall to serve them High Tea. The hall was decorated beautifully by the P&C. The people that were serving wore an apron and bow tie. We served them mini pies and cakes, sandwiches, chocololates, donuts and many other delicious treats. All of the Grandfriends enjoyed themselves and we loved having them here.
Does your school have a Grandparents day?
Why do you think we celebrate our Grandfriends?

Hello Blogging Buddies! We are excited to be this week's focus class! We are Marsden, a Year 5 and 6 Class at Warwick Farm Public School.
This year, all of the classes at Warwick Farm are named after an Australian author. We are Marsden, named after John Marsden. One of his most popular books is Tomorrow When the War Began, which has been made into a movie. It's a book for older kids.

Even though our name is Warwick Farm Public School, there are no farms around us. Maybe there was a long time ago, but most of the homes around us were built around the time of the Second World War, so there hasn't been any farms for a very long time. The closest farms are about 20 minutes away. Our school is about 30km South-west of the centre of Sydney. There are a lot of unit blocks around us and single story homes. Our school is next to a creek, so we have a lot of native birds in our playground as well as families of ducks. We also get some Red-Bellied Black Snakes.
Our School is very Multicultural. Seventy three percent of students at Warwick Farm come from a different language background (English is not their first language) and we have over 40 different nationalities represented in our school.
How many different cultures are there in your school?
Have you ever heard of John Marsden? Have you read any of his books?
Have you read a book by an Australian Author? (look on our school website to see some other names)
How far is your school from a big City?
